THE HORN DISPATCH

Independent East Africa Newsroom

Our Standards

Our commitment to accuracy, transparency, and accountability.

Editorial Independence

The Horn Dispatch maintains a complete firewall between editorial operations and all funding, partnership, and business relationships. No funder, partner, board member, or government entity has pre-publication review rights or editorial influence over any content published by the agency.

Sourcing Standards

No geopolitical analysis may rely on fewer than three independent source categories (government, opposition, civil society, diplomatic, academic, or OSINT). Single-source stories are published only as attributed statements, never as verified reporting.

Verification Methodology

All factual claims undergo verification appropriate to their category. Military action requires two independent sources plus OSINT corroboration. Political developments require official confirmation plus independent verification. Atrocity allegations require three independent sources including at least one non-partisan source, plus forensic or OSINT evidence, with a minimum 24-hour verification period.

Anonymity Policy

The Horn Dispatch grants source anonymity only when the source faces credible risk of harm and the information serves significant public interest. All anonymous sources are known to at least one editor.

AI Usage Disclosure

The Horn Dispatch uses AI-assisted tools for source-language translation, satellite imagery comparison, and OSINT source monitoring. AI is never used to generate quotes, fabricate sources, create synthetic images, or produce text presented as original reporting. All AI-assisted content is disclosed.

Corrections Policy

When we make errors, we correct them promptly and transparently. Errors of fact are corrected immediately with a visible correction notice appended to the original article. All corrections are logged on our public corrections page.
